A journey down the road of life………

Pitchback 101

Sunday
Aug 10,2008

Around the age of 8 or 9 my parents and I lived in a small subdivision in Woodbridge Virgina called ‘Twin Cedars”.  The name was cleverly chosen from the two cedar trees greeting residents at the neighborhood’s entrance.  Looking back, the trees looked nothing like twins at all and I’m not even sure they were Cedars (then again, the recollections of my 9th year are probably a little foggy).  A more appropriate name would have been “Quad Barrels Subdivision”, since my most vivid memory of the entrance is the perpetual existence of those orange and white striped barrels you see near road construction.  OK, enough of my rambling, on to the story…..(Kelly, bear with me…lol)

As with any 9′ish year old, I loved sports and wanted to be the next great baseball or football player.  To that end, my parents were cool enough to buy me one of the “Pitchback” devices at which you throw a baseball and it kindly returns the favor to the “pitcher” (at least in theory).   Having something to do in the backyard by myself was a godsend for an only child living in a neighborhood known more for its fraternal trees than its stable of baseball throwing 7 - 10 year old boys. Plays with Mud

Monday
Jan 7,2008

Kelly and I have a friend, Paula, who has her own pottery and craft business called “Plays with Mud”. You can see some of her work HERE. Her talent is amazing! We pretty much took care of Christmas this year with her work; she showed some of it to us when she and her husband invited us over one evening for a drink or three with some friends. I’m not sure if it was the alcohol, or her salesmanship, but we’d placed 4 orders within no time and felt damn good about it! In looking at how Paula’s eyes LIT up when she talked about her crafts, it was obvious this was definitely Read the rest of this entry »

“Hey Gaston”

Saturday
Jan 5,2008

Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging! And with the previous sentence I finally have my “own” official website. Up till now, Wordpress.Com was “hosting” this blog HERE. As of today, I had successfully migrated the blog to here (Where you are now), at “HeyGaston”. The idea of the URL name came from a friend of ours, so imagine my surprise when such a common sounding name was URL available. I tried to get “www.HeyKelly” Read the rest of this entry »

Dynamic Named Ranges in Excel

Thursday
May 31,2007

When using named ranges for pivot tables (among other things), I find myself constantly having to update the area of the spreadsheet referred to by the named range. This renaming occurs as a result of my adding new raw data to the table, or editing the table’s Column/Row layout. When researching possible solutions, I came across this article at Ozgrid. The gist of it is to utilize the “OFFSET” function Read the rest of this entry »

We Did It!

Sunday
May 6,2007

Just a quick post to let everyone know that we are off to the ‘Cooner (Cancun for those of you residing west and north of Gaston County, NC). We will post MUCH more later, but we wanted to leave a quick note letting everyone know how much we appreciate your love and support. Its 6:30 AM and we are getting ready to catch a plane. Nonetheless, we did want to get a few shots of the Wedding online.

If you have photos you’d like to send us from YOUR personal collection, please send them to gaston.wilson@gmail.com, or snail mail us a disk (in the case of those who prefer not to send via email) to PO Box 472329, Charlotte, NC 28247. Upon our return to the States the week of May 13th, we will make them a part of the collection of wonderful memories shared by all………..

Thank you all so MUCH for your continued support and love. You have a very special place in my and Kelly’s heart………

t-minus 48 Hours

Thursday
May 3,2007

Wow - what a fast 6 months. Our last real Blog entry was right after the engagement back in September. Here we are on May 3rd with only 48 hours to go before we leave for Shady Grove Baptist Church. It’s amazing how many people and resources are put into action to execute an event like this. Kelly and her mom have handled 98% of the details all by themselves, so my hat is off to them for a job well done.

One of the tasks on my to-do list was providing guests driving from out of town and the surrounding area with directions to the various destinations of the day. If you are leaving from the Charlotte and surrounding areas, we are encouraging everyone to leave for the Church on Saturday around 3:30 or shortly thereafter. While the trip is only about 50 miles, leaving a full hour and a half prior to the 5pm Ceremony kickoff provides some potentially needed cushion for traffic issues and your own personal “getting lost in Gaston County” story.

See you soon!
